About
Who this site is for, how the test works, and what makes it different from a typical speed test.
What Live Internet Speed is
“Live Internet Speed explains the quality of your connection—not just its Mbps.”
Most speed tests hand you a download number and leave you to guess what it means. Live Internet Speed runs the same kind of measurement — download, upload, ping, jitter and loaded latency — but pairs every result with plain-language interpretation: is this connection actually good enough for the video call, competitive game, or 4K stream you care about right now? A single Mbps figure rarely answers that question on its own; latency and jitter under load often matter more than raw throughput for real-time use cases like gaming and calls, while sustained download speed matters more for streaming and large downloads. This site exists to connect the raw numbers to that kind of practical, everyday context.
How it works
The test is built on Cloudflare’s official @cloudflare/speedtest package. Measurement traffic travels directly between your browser and Cloudflare’s network — there are no custom or third-party speed-test servers in between. That keeps the path being measured as close as possible to the path your real traffic takes, and it means the underlying measurement engine is a well-tested, publicly documented library rather than something built from scratch. For the full detail on what each metric means and how results are calculated, see the methodology page.
What makes it different
Live Internet Speed is an original, independently built product. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Ookla, Speedtest.net, Netflix, Fast.com, or any other speed-testing service, and it does not use their names, branding, or measurement infrastructure. Any resemblance in what a speed test measures — download, upload, latency — reflects the shared, well-established terminology of internet measurement, not any relationship between the products.
The focus here is on interpretation over spectacle: results are framed against practical thresholds for gaming, streaming, video calls and remote work, so you leave with an answer to “is this good enough?” rather than just a number to compare against a marketing chart.
Privacy-first approach
Running a speed test necessarily involves your browser exchanging data with Cloudflare’s network — that’s how any real measurement works, and this site does not claim otherwise. What it does not do is sell your data, run advertising trackers, or build profiles beyond what’s needed to show you your own results and, optionally, your own local history. Read the full breakdown on the privacy page.
